Mari and Hope
Title: A Journey from the Streets to a Forever Home
Location: Denver
In January 2024, Mari was reported to us by a colleague who had noticed her wandering the streets of Tirana for months. Just two hours later, we found her and rushed her to the hospital. There, Mari underwent surgery to remove a 1 kg tumor from her chest and was spayed. Getting to know her gentle nature, Aida couldn’t bear to leave this fragile girl on the cold winter streets, so she took Mari into her small apartment while searching for a more permanent solution.
With the help of our partners, we found a flight volunteer for Denver and reached out to a wonderful rescue organization willing to take in both Mari and another rescued dog, Hope. We were overjoyed when they said yes! The girls traveled together, boarded together, and stayed in a foster home together. Their bond grew so strong that no one wanted to separate them, and they were eventually adopted as a pair.
Now, Hope, the “mama” of the two, lovingly protects shy, timid Mari, ensuring she always feels safe and loved.
